Geometry is the second course of the upper school mathematics curriculum. The course will focus on the exploration and study of Euclidean Geometry. Topics covered in the first quarter include logic and reasoning; lines and angles; properties of triangles, polygons and circles; transformations and tessellations. During the fourth quarter we will study areas of polygons and circles, the Pythagorean Theorem, volumes and surface areas of solids, similarity and proportions and Trigonometry. Throughout the course, there will be a focus on proof and the use of deductive reasoning.
The class will meet throughout the 2016-17 school year on Mondays, Wednesdays and alternating Thursdays.
