Exchange Program

"The three weeks I spent in Spain were probably the most valuable weeks of my adolescent life. Those three weeks not only gave me time to learn more about the Spanish language and culture but also gave me time to develop myself as an independent young woman. No other experience would have allowed me to learn so much about another country and myself" - Lydia Farina'15

The Academy of the Sacred Heart, Bloomfield Hills, is part of a worldwide network of Sacred Heart schools, which makes it possible for qualified ASH students to attendother schools in the United States and abroad on an exchange program. We have noticed a renewed interest in the Exchange Program in the last few years, and encourage sophomores, in particular, to exchange within the network for a period of two to four weeks.

ASH students may apply for reciprocal exchanges and ASH families may offer to host a student from another school. The purpose of the exchange program is to allow students the opportunity to experience a Sacred Heart education from a different perspective, and in the case of an international exchange, for growth through the discovery of another culture.  Students on exchange may live with another Sacred Heart family or board at a Sacred Heart boarding school. Since this is a reciprocal program, costs are minimal.

An exchange complements the Sacred Heart educational experience and follows Goal IV, Criteria 7: The school participates actively in the national and international networks of Sacred Heart schools and Goal III, Criteria 4: In our multicultural world, the school prepares and inspires students to be active, informed, and responsible citizens locally, nationally, and globally. Exchange also allows students an opportunity for personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom (Goal V). The program allows students to experience first-hand the breadth of a Sacred Heart education and is available to students who have demonstrated consistently sound academic performance and positive social behavior throughout her Sacred Heart experience.

"The summer before my Junior year, I had the experience of living as a student for three weeks at Woldingham School in England. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything. I met new friends from all over the world, learned about English culture and foods, as well as experiencing the city of London every weekend. Through my experience, I was able to better my people skills and become a more outgoing person. I plan to travel and study abroad again in college because of my time at the Sacred Heart school in England."
