Primary School

"The Primary School program is based upon educational research on how young children learn best. Most schools strive for this type of learning environment, but the Academy of the Sacred Heart is where it can happen because of the low student-teacher ratio." – Renee McNally, Primary School Director

The Primary School offers a developmental approach to learning for girls and boys in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 1. In the Primary School, teachers nurture the child’s natural curiosity while also reinforcing the joy of discovery. Students meet daily in homebase groups for planning, sharing, skills work and problem-solving before venturing out to various learning centers to create, compose and construct. World language classes start at this age. Music, art and physical education provide daily opportunities for creative expression to complement the academic curriculum. With an abundance of individual attention, these young students are gaining mastery of academic areas and developing social skills and positive learning habits while progressing at their own pace and in their own style.

In Pre-Kindergarten, families may choose a schedule of five full days, five half days or four full days with Wednesdays off.
