All-School eNews | October 25, 2019 FEATURED STORY: The Academy of the Sacred Heart Approach Dr. Visocchi is nearing completion of a white paper entitled The Sacred Heart Approach. In it she identifies the philosophy and methodology behind what we do as Sacred Heart Educators and, even more specifically, as Academy of the Sacred Heart, Bloomfield Hills educators. In it she highlights certain instructional practices that have remained constant over 200 years - 169 here in Bloomfield Hills. I share them with you here and encourage you to take the time to read this excerpt from her forthcoming white paper, to be published later this year.
The Academy of the Sacred Heart Family During this past weekend, the celebrations of the Feast of Mater (pictured above) and Trunk and Treat were beautiful displays of the Academy of the Sacred Heart family. I speak and write often of the amazing and complex Academy of the Sacred Heart family. Our family consists of students, parents, and grandparents from six learning communities. Additionally, we have alumni parents, alums, Sacred Heart Network alums, current Sacred Heart educators, alumni Sacred Heart educators, and our local neighborhood community. Believe me when I tell you, it is a large, wonderful and diverse family.
I've found myself thinking about and reflecting on change lately. Since I've started, I've asked the Academy of the Sacred Heart family to be open to change and the growth that comes from it. You have accepted the challenge, and I am humbled by our collective commitment to do what is best for our students, to do so with the Goals and Criteria as our values and beliefs, and to be open to an exciting future.

Thank You for a Fabulous Trunk or Treat Event! The Sophomore Class of 2022 would like to thank all who participated and supported Trunk or Treat this year and made it an ENORMOUS success. On Sunday, October 20, we celebrated our Sixth Annual Trunk or Treat, sponsored by the Sophomore Class. It was a warm and beautiful fall afternoon filled with fun activities, crafts, food and trunk-or-treating fun. The turnout was fabulous; over 500 guests enjoyed the Halloween event.
A BIG thank you goes out to all the parents, teachers, and students who volunteered their decorated cars. The cars were so creative! The little costumed goblins enjoyed the games, crafts, and candy treats! View more photos on Facebook.
Thank you, Sophomore Class and moderators Señora Pastrone and Linda Shultz Anderson, for your dedication and hard work. It was wonderful to share Goal Four: the building of community as a Christian value with all our families and friends.

Contact Miss Megan with any questions, or register now through CampDoc. Nurse's Notes The Teal Pumpkin Project Naturally as parents, we are concerned about our children's safety on Halloween. We accompany them while trick-or-treating or instruct them to stay in groups. We buy flashlights and glow-in-the-dark gear for our children. We examine their candy and discard pieces if the packaging is not sealed. However, for parents managing food allergies, it becomes more tricky as the "treats" can be life threatening.
According to FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) one in 13 children living in the United States is affected by a food allergy. FARE has started a new campaign to raise awareness to food allergies called The Teal Pumpkin Project. A teal pumpkin placed outside a house means non-food treats are available. Artificial teal pumpkins can be purchased at Target, Meijer and Amazon. Also, teal pumpkin baskets are available for your child to carry to alert others that your child has an allergy.
Non-food items provide a safe and fun alternative to treats for children. Target, Meijer, and many Dollar stores offer non-food items that children enjoy. Pencils, erasers, stickers, glow-in-the-dark bracelets are all examples of popular non-food items. Even if your child does not have a food allergy, a treat other than candy is always appreciated. They receive plenty of candy as it is. Living by Goals 3 (a social awareness which impels to action) and 4 (the building of community as a Christian value), let's make the Halloween celebration as inclusive as possible. We hope you all have a safe and happy Halloween! ACADEMY OF THE SACRED HEART |
