All-School eNews | May 31, 2019 FEATURED STORY: An Unmatched Family Experience By Damian Hermann, Head of School Time-honored traditions are an amazing part of who we are as Academy of the Sacred Heart, Bloomfield Hills and as a Sacred Heart Network School. This community, "built on confidence", supports the mission entrusted to us by the Society of the Sacred Heart. As I welcomed our new Chief Advancement Officer, Kelita Bak, I shared, "If you want to know what it means to be a Sacred Heart school, just hang around for a couple of hours and we'll show you." Every day, we live out the mission and Goals and Criteria. Yesterday, I felt and saw the power of a Sacred Heart education in the Upper School during their Social Action Closing Prayer Service. This prayer service was written and led by our Upper School leaders and celebrated the extraordinary service contributions of their ASH classmates. Afterward, the seniors donned their graduation caps and processed through the school, where every student from Early Childhood to the Upper School honored them by lining the halls, waving white hankies and cheering for them. This outpouring of ASH family love was, to say the least, heartwarming. And to say the most, the unique ASH family experience, in my experienced opinion, is unmatched in Metro Detroit. As the year draws to an end, I am thankful to be part of a community with whom I am so aligned professionally and spiritually. The Goals and Criteria are embedded into our 167 years of existence. I am honored to continue the work of the Religious of the Sacred Heart, and in particular St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, who brought Sacred Heart education to North America 200 years ago. Centered in the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, she adapted, overcame, and innovated, letting nothing get in her way. We are challenged and inspired to follow in her footsteps. I heard the phrase recently, "breaking new ground", and I found myself thinking of St. Rose Philippine. She was not afraid to break new ground, and I pray that her example guides us as we continue the transformational legacy of Sacred Heart education. Adrianna Rugiero '19 Signs National Letter of Intent During a ceremony today, senior Adrianna Rugiero (pictured seated with her family above) signed a National Letter of Intent to play ice hockey and lacrosse for Concordia University in Ann Arbor next year. Congratulations, Adrianna! Thank you to everyone for their participation in Congé 2019 on Friday, May 24. This year's lip syncs showed great effort and contributed to a fun-filled day. Immediately afterward, the faculty and staff were able to electronically select their top choices. Congratulations to: - First place - Kensington Hall Grade 5 (pictured above) for "Stronger"
- First Runner-up - III Academic (Grade 11) for "Bohemian Rhapsody"
- Second Runner-up - II Academic (Grade 10) for "Mamma Mia"
- Third Runner-up - Middle School for Girls Grade 8 for "Cruisin' for a Bruisin'"
Grade 3 Visits Solanus Casey Center Grade 3 students spent a day at the Solanus Casey Center last week. While they were there, they presented Father Bob at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen with a check for the funds raised from the Empty Bowls event and the Lenten coin collection (pictured above). Thank you for your support! The students also created toiletry bags while at the Center. Father Bob showed the children the shower room at the soup kitchen so they would have a better understanding of how the items are used and that they are greatly needed.
The children celebrated mass in the chapel typically used only by the friars, and then spent time praying at the tomb of Blessed Solanus Casey. FROM THE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE Communications Survey Coming Your Way Later today, all current parents will receive an email invitation to participate in a survey on school communications. Please watch for this survey and respond thoughtfully. The feedback we receive will shape our communications methods and strategies for the 2019-2020 school year. The survey should only take about five minutes to complete; please respond no later than June 14. Thank you in advance for your participation! - Today was the last day to purchase lunch through ECI. Please be sure your child brings a lunch to school for the remainder of the year.
- Has your child outgrown his/her uniform? Consider donating used uniforms to PAASH! Gently-used items may be dropped at the Field House entrance.

Student Health & Medical Information for 2019-2020 By Robin Clements, School Nurse Academy of the Sacred Heart is excited to continue the use of Magnus Health to collect and store your student's health and medical information for the upcoming school year. There are many benefits to this process, including less paperwork for parents to complete each year and having more accurate information that is accessible to parents and the appropriate employees at our school. After June 18, you will receive a reminder email from Magnus Health notifying you that you must take action with your online Student Medical Record (SMR). This email will list any incomplete requirement(s) or any existing requirement(s) that will expire and needs to be updated. Emails are sent periodically. If you have an incomplete or soon-to-expire existing requirement, you will receive reminder emails throughout the summer to ensure health information compliance. You will have access to your Magnus Health SMR account through Sacred Heart's Parent Portal. You will access the Parent Portal using the same login information (username and password) used to apply online. Once in the portal, look for the "Magnus Health" link. We ask that you enter the health information for each child attending the school before August 1. Information saved from the last year will be displayed. You will need to review each section to update where necessary and save. If there are no changes, or after changes are made, you must save each section to complete the requirement and submit for approval. Watch for new requirements. Health appraisal forms are required for all Early Childhood students, all new students, all students entering a new learning community (Pre-K, Grade 2, Grade 5 and Grade 9), and all students participating in sports for the school. Asthma, allergy, diabetes, and seizure action plans must be filled out annually as well as prescription medication forms. Please make sure to answer "no" to these requirements and click "save" if they do not apply to your student. Questions or problems? If you are having difficulty navigating the Magnus system, entering data online, or downloading the hard copy cover sheets and forms, or if you have any other questions, please contact customer support at Magnus Health SMR by phone at 877.461.6831 or by email at service@magnushealthportal.com. I am also happy to assist you. Please email me at rclements@ashmi.org. |
