All-School eNews | March 23, 2018 FEATURED STORY: Sr. Eppig's Next Assignment After spending the past 13 years here in Bloomfield Hills, Sr. Anne Eppig has been called to a new assignment within the Society of the Sacred Heart at the end of this school year. She will move to the RSCJ community in Atherton, CA, where she will be a part of their early childhood program and minister to retired RSCJs. Sr. Eppig, who initially trained as a nurse, entered the Society in 1971. She has served in various capacities in Network schools in Greenwich, Chicago and Lake Forest, as well as two prior assignments in Bloomfield Hills. Sr. Eppig has served this school community in myriad ways. She embodies the hospitality that is characteristic of Sacred Heart schools. She can be seen greeting our youngest students at the Lower School door every morning and is a regular presence in Suzanne's Nest, our infant room. Sr. Eppig has kept Sacred Heart traditions at the forefront of our consciousness and been a blessing to the entire Bloomfield Hills community. Please join wishing her well, and watch for details on how we will celebrate her many contributions to the school. Project Term 2018: Crossing Frontiers Project Term 2018: Crossing Frontiers is well underway. After months of preparation, including building itineraries, defining learning objectives and completing research, the Project Term experiences were "commissioned" to begin on Thursday, March 15 during a prayer service. Experiences include myth-busting in Transylvania, studying in England, connecting with nature in Northern California (above), living the simple life at Sprout Creek Farm in Poughkeepsie, and outdoor adventures in North Carolina, as well as projects exploring and serving from the Detroit area.
Athletic Director Sal Malek Receives State Award of Merit Congratulations to ASH Athletic Director Sal Malek (above right), who was honored with the MIAAA's George Lovich State Award of Merit for his long-term contributions, leadership and meritorious service to the profession of interscholastic athletics. ASH Hosts Local Professional Development Event On Wednesday, March 21, the Academy of the Sacred Heart was pleased to host a professional development event for local educational leaders. Sponsored by Fujitsu America, the sessions discussed classroom technology trends. ASH Middle School for Girls Director Angie Saylor and Director of Technology Dino Vandenheede (above right) were among the presenters, and discussed our one-to-one mobile technology program. NURSE'S NOTES Save the Date for the Eighth Annual "Ryan Rocks" Blood Drive Ryan Miller was an amazing child of the Sacred Heart who lost his battle to Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He was loved by all and is greatly missed. Ryan is the son of Miss Kristen, who teaches in the Preschool class. She and her husband Bob lost Ryan when he was 7 years old in August of 2011. He would be in the eighth grade now. He loved soccer, baseball, hockey and fishing. He was a very energetic boy! Ryan required many blood transfusions during his battle.
