Meet Faith, ASH's Beloved Therapy Dog

Faith has been a cherished member of the ASH community since July 2022. As our therapy dog, she plays a vital role in enhancing the emotional and social well-being of both students and staff. Whether she’s greeting children in the hallways or offering comfort to those in need, Faith brings joy, calm, and a sense of connection across the school. With a team of 13 handlers, Faith follows a weekly schedule, spending time mostly in the Primary, Lower School, Middle School for Girls, Kensington Hall, and Upper School. Every day, she brightens the lives of the Children of the Sacred Heart!

Faith’s Positive Impact on Well-being

Faith’s presence is a soothing addition to our community. Research shows that therapy dogs can help reduce stress, increase focus, and promote a sense of calm. At ASH, Faith helps create a positive environment for learning and emotional growth. From spending quiet moments with students to brightening a classroom visit, Faith’s contributions go far beyond the wag of her tail. She provides emotional support that lifts spirits and fosters an atmosphere of joy!

Accommodating Students with Allergies or Fears

At ASH, we understand that not all students may be comfortable around dogs, and we take steps to ensure Faith’s presence is positive for everyone. Handlers make sure students in their classrooms are not allergic and are comfortable around dogs before bringing Faith in for an extended visit. For students with allergies, Faith is usually seen in passing as we try to avoid having her in classrooms where allergies have been identified. Similarly, for students who may be fearful of dogs, Faith’s handlers are trained to respect those boundaries and ensure that Faith’s interactions are always thoughtful and controlled.

We would like to recognize all of Faith’s handlers for taking such good care of her throughout the school day: Emily Ahern, John Bagley, Tabitha Custer, Kim Davidson, Chelsea Kozlowski, Melissa Grace, Stephanie Hamilton, Damian Hermann, Joyce Lee, Lynette Nixon, Gretchen Parks, Candice Price, and Eric Swanson.
