A Social Awareness Which Impels to Action

At Academy of the Sacred Heart, Bloomfield Hills, we are a community compelled by the love of God and the mandate of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to act with awareness, humility, empathy, and solidarity. As such, we value diversity not only as a reflection of God’s world and our global network, but also an essential source of strength and enrichment. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment where every member of our school community feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. This commitment is drawn directly from our Goals and Criteria

  • The school community welcomes and respects persons of all faiths and educates to an understanding of the religions and spiritual traditions of the world. (G1C4)
  • Sacred Heart educators immerse students in diverse global perspectives, developing competencies such as critical consciousness, language facility and cultural literacy. (G3 C2)
  • The school, drawing from Catholic Social Teaching, educates students to analyze and work to eradicate social structures, practices, systems and values that perpetuate racism and other injustices. (G3 C3)
  • The school, affirming that all are created in the image and likeness of God, promotes the inherent dignity of the human person and strives for relationships characterized by inclusion and mutual respect. (G4 C1)
  • School leadership demonstrates a conscious effort to recruit students and employ faculty and staff of diverse races, ethnicities and backgrounds. (G4 C6)
  • School leadership allocates financial resources to support socio-economic diversity both in the admissions process and in the daily life of students. (G4 C7)

Academy of the Sacred Heart seeks to appreciate diverse perspectives, proactively identify opportunities for improvement, learn and implement best practices, and promote inclusion and equity. These commitments are seen in our professional learning opportunities for faculty, community-wide programming, and ongoing dialogue and discussion with students, families, faculty, and leadership.
