Head of School Welcome
Welcome to the Academy of the Sacred Heart, where every day makes a difference in the lives of children. Their passion for learning is ignited from the very moment they enter our community, and it's a journey of growth that endures with successes in colleges and universities, careers and community service and enriched relationships that span the globe.
Intergenerational and international learning distinguishes the world-wide community that is the Sacred Heart family, as students in 44 countries discover the distinctive difference of membership in a community of learners and leaders. The Academy of the Sacred Heart, one of 21 Sacred Heart Schools in the United States, makes visible the Goals of Sacred Heart education:
- Personal and active faith in God
- Deep respect for intellectual values
- Social awareness which impels to action
- Building of community as a Christian value
- Personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom
Educational programs integrate the finest research and best practices to meet the developmental and academic needs of students in five distinctive learning communities. Co-educational classes in the Early Childhood Program through Grade 4 (Infant/Toddler Program, Preschool, Primary School and Lower School) focus on developing the potential of each child during these formative years. The Kensington Hall Learning Community serves the Knights of the Sacred Heart (boys in Grades 5-8), while the Middle School and Upper School Learning Community is home to the Gazelles (girls in Grades 5-12). Each learning community provides unique experiences in faith, academics, student life, service and leadership, as each individual is challenged to think, imagine, create and stretch their accomplishments in new directions.
From their earliest years, our students are provided with experiences that create a strong foundation of faith in God, and opportunities to experience faith in action through the service program. Leading from the heart, students come to know their personal responsibility for each choice they make in both life and learning, and are presented with many opportunities to give back to the wider community through service to others. The religious educations program is required for all students, along with participation in Catholic liturgy. Approximately 65% of the student and faculty is Roman Catholic, with a legacy of treasuring the diversity of religious experience throughout the world and within our own student body.
We invite you to visit our 44-acre campus in Bloomfield Hills, where the classroom experience extends into our 31,000 square foot Field House, the extensive nature center and natural science areas, and where our "oasis of hope" provides children and young adults with the space to grow in wisdom, grace and the experience of community.
Yes, at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, each day makes a difference in the journey that lasts a lifetime. I look forward to welcoming you to "life at Sacred Heart" and inviting you to join me in this great work of optimism and hope.
