Curricular Outcomes
Author’s Day: Students are celebrated as authors by exhibiting their writing projects, which are published throughout the year.
Autobiographies: Third grade students write a five-chapter account of their lives from birth into the future.
Book Clubs: Grade 4 students explore the connection of reading, writing and speaking through the use of genre-based book clubs.
Book Reports: Third grade students explore a new genre of literature every month.
Field Day: This year-end event encourages community-building, teamwork and wellness.
Gazelle Gazette: A student-published newspaper is produced in which students determine topics to be covered and participate in peer editing under the guidance of the technology coordinator.
Invention Convention: Third grade students design and produce simple machines to assist in daily tasks. Students demonstrate their inventions for peers and adults throughout the school.
Presidential Wax Museum: Second grade students each choose a president to portray while learning about how to research and present their subject to the parents and students who attend.
Reconciliation: The fourth grade students prepare and plan for their Sacrament of Reconciliation. The families are invited to also participate in this memorable event.
Rock Creations: Following the study of sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks, fourth grade students use their creativity and imaginations to make rock projects from everyday materials and write descriptive and informative reports on the rock's properties.
Science Night: This annual evening event includes hands-on experiments and games. The following day, Lower School students may participate in the traditional Egg Drop.
Solemn Eucharist Celebration: During class, the second grade students prepare and plan for the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist. With the support of their family and friends, all of the students are invited to participate in our special day.
Sports Fairs: All students participate in seasonal sports fairs, which provide initial exposure to the variety of sports offered at Academy of the Sacred Heart in the middle and Upper schools. Coaches and older students help facilitate the event.
Student Art Shows: An annual exhibit highlights the best work of each individual student.
