Hehs, Denny '08 to be Honored by the Catholic League

ASH is honored to announce that Associate Head of School Judith Hehs has been selected as the Catholic High School League's 2013 Person of the Year, the highest honor the Catholic League bestows on an individual. She will receive the award at the Hall of Fame Banquet on Monday, June 10. At that time, Rachel Denny '08 will be recognized as one of the Catholic League Athletes of the Year.

The valedictory address will be given during the commencement exercises on June 13, with the salutatorian's address presented at Prize Day that morning.

Multi-Touch Table Enhances Primary School Curriculum

Funded by a grant from the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL), teachers Rachel Husek and Judy Smith introduced a Multi-Touch Table to students in March. The table, constructed by Dino Vandenheede and Mark LaDuke of the ASH technology department, allows multiple students to collaboratively interact with technology-based learning programs. The Academy of the Sacred Heart’s 11th Hour Theatre Company invites the public to attend its production of The Wizard of Oz on Friday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. or Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium. The production includes students from the Upper School, Middle School for Girls and Kensington Hall (boys, grades 5-8), as well as faculty and staff. Tickets are $10 each at the door.

On Friday, February 22, the Middle School for Girls held its inaugural Science Day, featuring numerous hands-on student activities, including a special guest visit from the Robot Garage of Birmingham and Science with the Engineers, Inc. The Academy of the Sacred Heart is proud to announce senior Marissa Ray as a National Merit Scholarship Corporation finalist. More than 1.5 million students in over 21,000 high schools entered the 2013 Merit Program when they took the 2011 PSAT/NMSQT. The selection of some 8,300 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 finalists is now in progress. Congratulations, Marissa!

Empty Bowls Aims to Feed the Hungry

Join the ASH community on Wednesday, February 13 from 5-7 p.m. for an Empty Bowls meal, which raises funds to feed the hungry in Oakland County. The entire school is involved in the production of the bowls as well as the preparation of a simple meal of bread and soup. ASH Community Donates 100 Thanksgiving Baskets

Thank you to all the students, families and faculty/staff who participated in the collection of canned and non-perishable items for Lighthouse of Oakland County’s Thanksgiving baskets. We were able to provide 100 full baskets, 60 pies and nearly $2,200 toward the purchase of turkeys for families in need.
