Field House and Facilities

The Field House at the Academy of the Sacred Heart is the latest in a series of capital improvements designed to meet our standards of education in a changing world. The 31,000 square foot building provides the additional facilities needed for an athletic program bursting with excellence – a program that boasts state-wide titles and champions. The multi-sport facility complements new sports fields and landscaping that are both ecologically and environmentally friendly. The Field House and new fields are home to basketball, cross country, equestrian, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, pom-pon/dance, soccer, softball, skating, skiing, tennis and volleyball.

The Field House is also multi-dimensional. It provides an after school hour and weekend venue for gathering students of the Academy, and is the home of the After School Learning Center. The new space creates programs and places where our students can welcome their friends “home” and learn the social and personal skills needed as they move to adulthood. In the cyber-café, aerobics room and cardio-vascular facilities, students learn healthy living and learn to combat the media focus on the unhealthy choices of obesity, self and substance abuse and destructive behavior.

As the home of the After School Learning Center – a satellite program that offers the mission of a Sacred Heart education to children enrolled in the Pontiac public school district – the Field House accommodates two specially-designed classrooms for this purpose. This program supplements the work of Pontiac educators by offering academic tutoring, cultural enrichment and athletic opportunities provided by volunteers and educators of the Academy. The After School Learning Center not only creates educational links between communities but also builds bridges of relationship as students from two neighborhoods discover their similarities, rather than their differences.

The Field House will also be used for programs sponsored by the Academy of the Sacred Heart and associated members of the community.
